In January 2021, the mother-daughter team of Shannon Frasher and Deb Kleitsch officially opened their new storefront in Cascade, Hollow Tree Gifts and Floral.
While new in location, it is already an established local business. Frasher and Kleitsch have been running this business in various forms for close to 20 years. Before moving to Cascade, Hollow Tree operated out of a storefront on the Kleitsch farm between Cascade and Monticello off Highway 151. They started by participating in craft fairs with artificial arrangements and silk floral products. As they grew, they added more products and services to their offerings.
Their new home in the historic building on First Avenue in Cascade, Iowa, has been in need of love for quite some time. Jake and Jackie McAllister, local business owners and developers, saw potential in this building and had a vision to turn the empty storefront space into something immediately leasable. In addition to adding walls, updating the bathroom, and refinishing the floors, they called on our crew to complete a major overhaul of the electrical work in the building.
Our McAllister Electrical Services team replaced all the lighting in the store and back garage as well as added outlets in the garage area for the tenant’s flower cooler and her equipment. We also replaced the electrical service unit for the entire building. In order to transform the upper level of the building into a welcoming and modern rental retreat, we installed outlets, hung new televisions, and updated lighting fixtures. Now the tenant and the owners can feel confident that this 100-year-old building has enough power to serve for years to come in downtown Cascade!
The 34-day remodel of the new home to Hollow Tree Gifts and Floral was a group effort of many local contractors. From shiplap and wood to brick, this modern space will give “Hollow Tree” the fun touch this town is excited to see. We wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors!
